Creating a Great School Yearbook

Every year across the country schools of all sizes will spend the year compiling their student yearbook. In most cases, this is a student designed but school led activity where the kids are allowed to write, report and submit photographs for the final product. Producing a great school yearbook is more than simply choosing the best photographs or covering senior prom, it should be an accurate account of the relevant events affecting the students of that particular school year. To that end, here are a few helpful yearbook design tips.

Relevant

Times change, sometimes more quickly than others and yearbook printing should reflect those changes. For example, you might look back over the past few years and notice that the history teacher wears the exact same outfit in every yearbook picture, despite the fact they never wear the outfit in class. There was a time when staff was more aloof and removed from their students; however, modern teachers are often addressed by their first name, such as Mr. Allen or Ms. Sue. In keeping with a more informal trend students may want to ask their teachers to shake it up a bit for the yearbook pictures, maybe a blue tie this year rather than the standard pinstripe!

There are other ways a yearbook printing needs to stay relevant, and this is in the field of major national events. Generally speaking, this will not be an every year event, but think about things like 9/11, an age appropriate entry will create a fantastic yearbook!

Who comprises the school yearbook printing team? If they are made up primarily by the basketball or football team, the debate team may not get much coverage! While it is not possible to list, every single action of a particular group there should be a fair and balanced approach. Which means a couple of shots of the cheerleaders should be included whether you like the team or not.
